Cappella Pratensis & Ensemble La Danserye

Manila Cathedral, built in 1581, featured European polyphony from the very beginning. That we know little about these early performances makes La Danserye and Cappella Pratensis’ experimental detective work all the more impressive. Using Francisco Guerrero’s Missa Sancta et immaculata as the crux, the singers and instruments led by Stratton Bull paint the soundscape of a world in which liturgical music mirrored colonial power structures.
