EL SILENCIO ILUMINADO: Manuel Egüés y la solemnidad del Oficio de Semana Santa

The Ensemble La Danserye will take part in the inaugural concert of the “La Música Dormida. The Musical Legacy of Burgos Cathedral” series, a project aimed at recovering and showcasing previously unpublished compositions from the Burgos Cathedral archives. This concert cycle commemorates the 950th anniversary of the transfer of the episcopal seat from Oca to Burgos, a historically and culturally significant event.

The first concert of the series, titled “The Illuminated Silence. Manuel Egüés and the Solemnity of the Holy Week Office”, will take place on Sunday, March 30, at 8:30 PM in the Golden Staircase of Burgos Cathedral. Tickets will be available starting Wednesday, March 19, at a price of 4 euros through the Teleentradas platform.

Under the direction of Javier Ulises Illán, the concert will offer a sonic reconstruction of a 17th-century Tenebrae service, evoking the spiritual atmosphere of Holy Week as it would have been experienced at that time. The performance will feature Burgos Baroque Ensemble, alongside Ensemble La Danserye, which specializes in Renaissance wind instruments, and the Coda Vocal Group, dedicated to Gregorian chant. Additionally, it will include the outstanding participation of soloists Beatriz Lafont and Verónica Plata (sopranos), Jorge Enrique García (alto), and Víctor Cruz (baritone).

The “La Música Dormida” series will continue with three more concerts throughout the year, presenting other valuable works from the Burgos Cathedral archives. This series is a unique opportunity to rediscover the rich musical heritage of Burgos Cathedral and bring it closer to today’s audiences through historically informed performances.
