The International University of Andalusia (UNIA) will host the International Research Conference ‘Hispanic Polyphonies (16th-19th centuries)’ on December 4th and 5th at the Antonio Machado site in Baeza. The event is directed by Javier Marín-López (University of Jaén), director of the Úbeda and Baeza Early Music Festival, and Ascensión Mazuela-Anguita (University of Granada), assistant director of FeMAUB.
The main objective of this conference is to study some polyphonic repertoires of the Hispanic world (ca. 1500-1900), with special attention to the interactions between written polyphony, improvised performances, and oral tradition. The survival and reworking of polyphonic musical practices and the approach to digital tools related to the topics discussed, particularly the Books of Hispanic Polyphony IMF-CSIC platform, will also be addressed.
Connections between the polyphonic repertoire and another important digital platform, the Traditional Music Archive IMF-CSIC, which contains more than 50,000 melodies from the oral tradition, will also be explored.
