Sebastián de Vivanco: Missa Super Octo Tonos

Tribute to Susana Muñoz, the Overlooked Printer of Sacred Music in Golden Age Salamanca

The vocal ensemble Sourcework, together with the plainchant specialists Schola Antiqua and the ministriles of La Danserye, present the Missa super octo tonos by Sebastián de Vivanco (1553?-1622), professor and chapel master. The musicians perform both polyphony and plainchant from the original notation, gathered around the choir book printed by Susana Muñoz (d. 1625), in a liturgy inspired by the opening of the academic year in Golden Age Salamanca.
