Travesías de una canción: Susana y la Missa “Susanne un jour” de Pere Riquet

Susanne un jour is probably the most emblematic chanson spirituelle of the 16th century. The four-voice version composed by Didier Lupi II in 1548, based on a poem by Guillaume Guéroult, led to dozens of compositions inspired by this piece. At the end of the 16th century, in La Seu d’Urgell, a remote town in the Pyrenees, the Catalan composer Pere Riquet composed the Missa Susanne un jour, following the footsteps of many other European masters who had also composed imitation masses based on this chanson. The Capella Prolationum and the Ensemble La Danserye offer an approach to one of the Iberian branches of this iconic Renaissance piece.
