“Susanne un jour” is arguably the most emblematic chanson spirituelle of the 16th century. The four-voice setting by Didier Lupi II (1548), based on a poem by Guillaume Guéroult, inspired dozens of new compositions.
At the end of the 16th century, in La Seu d’Urgell—a remote town in the Pyrenees—the Catalan composer Pere Riquet followed in the footsteps of many European masters by composing the Missa Susanne un jour, an imitation mass based on this renowned chanson.
Capella Prolationum and Ensemble La Danserye explore one of the Iberian branches of this iconic Renaissance piece.

A vocal ensemble dedicated to recreating the musical chapels of the Early Middle Ages through the 17th century, with a focus on Renaissance sacred repertoire. Their historically informed approach is based on original sources, both theoretical and practical, particularly canto de órgano (polyphony). This allows for an authentic reconstruction of the musical practices of historical ecclesiastical chapels.
Founded in 1998 in Calasparra (Murcia, Spain), Ensemble La Danserye researches, recreates, and promotes wind music and instruments from the late Middle Ages to the early Baroque, specializing in the Renaissance. They have performed at specialized festivals in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, the Netherlands, and Belgium, showcasing projects focused on recovering Hispanic musical heritage. Their work includes the first-ever recordings of ministriles music from the Cathedral of Puebla (SEdeM) and the Manuel de Falla Archive in Granada (Lindoro).
